Actor Cary was born 'Archie Leach' on January 18, 1904 at 15 Hughenden Road, Horfield, a suburb of Bristol, Gloucestershire England.When he was 10 years old, Grant was told that his mother was dead while, in fact, she had been committed to an institution by his father. His father, the son of a potter, worked as a tailor but was an alcoholic.
Grant took up with Bob Pender's group of traveling performers. In New York he left the troupe and headed for Hollywood.
Known for his debonair demeanor, and "dashing good looks", Grant is one of Hollywood's definitive leading men. Cary Grant exuded style, charm and sophistication. Grant performed in films from the 1930s through the 1960s. He starred in several Hitchcock films, including the 1959 hit North by Northwest.
Archie Leach is honoured by John Cleese in the movie 'Fish called Wanda'.
